The DARE program is a cooperative effort between the East Penn School District, St. Ann's School and the Emmaus Police Department.
WHAT IS DARE? www.dare.com
DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a validated, copyrighted, comprehensive drug violence prevention education program designed for children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The main core the program is delivered through a 10-week curriculum at the 5th and 6th grade levels. The program represents a cooperative effort between schools and law enforcement. DARE is a partnership between parents, the schools, and police.
DARE was developed in Los Angeles, in 1983, through a cooperative effort of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District. Since its inception, the DARE progam has been extended to all 50 states, as well as 44 foreign countries. Currently, there are approximately 35,000 DARE officers worldwide. The DARE program now exists in 80% of all School Districts in the United States including the Department of Defense Dependent Schools.
DARE lessons emphasize the following objectives: reisistance skills, enhancing self-esteem, assertiveness techniques, anger management, conflict resolution, risk assessment, decision making skills, reducing violence, interpersonal skills, enhanced communications, awareness of surroundings.
